Title: My Birth Story

Blog Entry: Showed up to the hospital a few minutes to 7am on Wednesday January 16,
2008; for my scheduled induction. They stuck me in a room, had me put
on a nightgown, checked me, which I was 3 1/2cm dilated, and then they
hooked up to the monitors. 8am rolls around and they are ready to start
the IV and the Petocin to start the contractions but then surprisingly
i learn that they have to run antibiotics through the IV also, due to a
positive Group B Strep test in the beginning of my pregnancy. Mind you,
I didn`t even know about this positive result in the first place! I
guess if a woman has that infection the baby can come out very sick. So
also because of that they have to monitor the baby for 48 hrs. It was
8:30am by the time that they started the IV and then at 10:30am the doc
came in,checked me again and said i was now dilated to 5 or 6cm, then
he ruptured my water. I was expecting a huge gush of water like my last
delivery but it was just trickling out...most likely because the baby`s
head was acting as a cork. By this time my contractions were coming
closer and closer together and were most defiantly getting really
painful. So I finally asked for the pain medication and they ran
Neubain through my IV, which seemed like all that did was make me
really sleepy. Doctor checked me again and said that I was fully
dilated and ready to push whenever I had the urge to. Seems it was
harder this time around to push because with my last daughter I had her
father helping me hold my one leg and my sister helping me hold the
other leg. This time around I was on my own. I don`t know how many
times I pushed but I do remember that it hurt in between my inner
thighs and back a lot. I kept feeling the water gush out every time I
pushed also. Once her head crowned I gave a few small pushes and she
was out! Delivered at 12:41pm, 4 hours later, Bethany Hope Sovey
weighed in at 7lbs 1oz and was 18 3/4in. long. She has a head full of
black, thick hair and her eyes are like a bluish-grayish color. This
time around I didn`t need the episiotomy but I did tear a little bit
and ended up getting 3 stitches. Bethany received 8`s and 9`s on her
Apgar test and she passed both of her ears for her hearing test. Now I
have her newborn appt. on Monday at 10am and I have my daughter
Brianna`s 1yr appt. at 11am on Monday also!!! My 1yr old daughter
Brianna seems very jealous about her new baby sister and angry at me. I
guess she will have to learn how to deal with it. I love both my baby
gurls.
